| Game 3: Close but no cigar for team Storm |
20 June 2011 |
The game took to the ice with both Storm and Penguins hard on each other others heels. The hitting and physicality took an early turn as every completed pass ended with a crowd pleasing hit.
This time Penguins scored first with a great goal and deke from Johnson on Nebe putting Penguins in the lead early in the game. First period was "all Penguins" managing to hold the puck in the offensive zone of the Storm team. Unfortunately Storm were missing some key players and were feeling the pressure on the attack.
2nd period Storm found their feet and Ishmail scores off a pass from Schiess bringing the scoreline to 3 - 1. Third period Penguins turned on the heat and scored 5 goals with Nebe racking up 4 points. Storm came back with 2 goals late in the game by Cheslyn Cassiem and Brandon Stevens.
Game 3 ended with Penguins up 8 goals to Storms 3.
Game 4 has been scheduled for Monday, 18 July 2011. Both teams should have a 4 line compliment and this is going to be a match-up not to be missed as players will be well rested from the upcoming holidays. |

| Penguins dominate Game2 |
13 June 2011 |
Penguins came into Game2 with focus and determination after their narrow loss in game1, losing 4-3. Suffering numerous roster eliminations due to players unable to play their complete roster was only 13 players.
On the other side of the ice was an almost complete roster although missing Brendan Stevens, Timo Giersch and Kyle Martin. The game was underway and within seconds Storm had put a goal on the board with a solo effort from Tariq Ishmail skating between Klyde Stevens and Chad Williams pulling the goalie and sliding the puck passed Lloyd Schluter.
Directly after (in the thumbnail) Jade Johnson scores "bar-down" off a pass from the Marc Giot in the corner on Jack Nebe to equilise the game at 1 a piece. Giot then went on to score the Pens 2nd goal assisted by Wesley Krotz. The Pens kept at it and dominated the score line from start to finish.
Cheslyn Cassiem got a minor penalty during the 2nd period which put Storm short-handed but they managed to keep the scoring at bay. Giot and Samaai scored the bulk of the Pens 12 goals and to top things off Chad Williams scored off the far post from a slap-shot on Storm's Goaltender McClurg.
Not all lost at a 12-4 scoreline and with the Storm team definitely looking to take the third game after a rather harsh wake-up-call. Game3 has been scheduled for Monday, 20th June 2011. |

Penguins will be short of Deen Magmoed for the upcoming Game2 as he represents SA in the roller hockey world champs. The question about Chris Reeves broken hand is still out as management patiently awaits news from his doctor.
The Penguins will be relying on their first line to create more of an impact this time round with the roster looking like Giot - Carelse - Samaai - Yates - Reeves (if available) |

After x-ray taken earlier today, they show a minor break in the hand assisted by a previous car accident after the IIHF World Championships in April. Reeves says "I should be good to go in 2 weeks", Penguins management will be speaking to his doctor about his recovery and eta on his return to the ice.
The Penguins defenceman will be training with the team but will be focusing on fitness until he is able to use his hand. |

| Game 1 |
31 May 2011 |
In this photo: Deen Magmoed on the attack on the Storm net with Jack Nebe between the pipes.
The first game of the Cape Town Premier Leagues "Playoff Series" got underway in good form with both teams stepping up to the plate and putting on an amazing show for the crowd. Even with terrible weather outside fans still managed to make their way to the arena and support their teams.
First period ended with the Penguins down by 2 and some strong offensive play from the Storm first line (Tchekashkine, Petrov, Stevens, Scheiss and Geirsch) never-the-less goaltender Lucian Lorenzo in net for Penguins kept his team in the game while they tried to penetrate the Storm defence.
A controvercial hit by Schiess on Giot went to the ice and Giersch sliding with "boots and all" into the face-shield of #9 (Giot), the stoppage in play saw an unhappy Penguin skate to the bench removing what was left of his visor and tossing it to the bench. End of the 2nd and the score was 3-1 in favor of the Storm team.
Marc Giot and Christopher Reeves were removed from the rest of the game as the "visor" story ran its course and "rules are rules" had the ref's calling the shots. Reeves fractured a finger on a hit on Giersch which supplemented his "showers". This loss to the team didnt hinder their spirits as Defencemen Deen Magmoed and George Fischer took charge and brought the game within 1.
The final whistle for the game sounded and saw Team Storm victorious in the first of the series winning 4 goals to 3. |
